17 Day Northern Kenya Safari : Losai National Game Reserve

Day 1: Nairobi -Shaba

On the first morning of your Northern Kenya Safari Explorer Package you’ll depart Nairobi in the morning and head north via the shoulder of Africa’s second largest mountain, Mt Kenya to the rugged landscape of Shaba National Reserve, where Joy Adamson experimented with the release of hand-reared Leopards. After lunch at the lodge enjoy a late afternoon game drive. (Dinner Included)

Day 2: Shaba

Spend the day game viewing in the Reserve appreciating the diverse landscape and variety of animal species. Shaba is part of a lava plain that includes a diverse landscape of thorn scrub, red dirt and dried river beds. The region is home to the uncommon Grevy’s Zebra with huge fury ears, Gerenuk antelope standing on hind legs to feed, Somali Ostriches with distinct blue legs and the shy Oryx. Elephant and crocodile are guaranteed sightings and Leopard sightings are also a special feature here. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Day 3 & 4: Shaba – Losai Game Reserve

On the third morning of your Kenya safari vacation you will journey from Shaba to Losai National Game Reserve which is a semi-desert landscape characterized by rocky hills, plains and river woodlands along the seasonal rivers. The scenic beauty is breathtaking; game to view includes Elephant, Greater and Lesser Kudu, Gerenuk and Grants Gazelle. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Day 5 – 7:  Losai – Marsabit

On Day 5 of your safari holiday in Kenya, head to Marsabit National Park, famous for its densely forested mountain and three crater lakes that are only permanent surface of water in the region. Major wildlife attractions include the African Elephant, the endangered Grevy’s Zebra, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, large herds of Greater and Lesser Kudus, common Zebra, Grant’s Gazelles and many other small antelopes. Day 8: Marsabit – Kalacha

Visit Marsabit Town and a volcanic crater before making your way back into the desert landscape with its lava flows. The night’s camp is at Kalacha, a small Gabbra settlement on the edge of the Chalbi Desert. Kenya travel is a great opportunity to encounter new cultures and the Gabbra are an Eastern Cushitic people related to the Somali-Rendille in their historical origins in the southern Ethiopian highlands. They are pastoralists, particularly attached to their camels. You will have opportunity to ride Camel interacting with Gabbra and Rendille at extra cost. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Day 9 – 12: Kalacha – Kulal

On these days of your Kenya safari vacation you will travel through the Chalbi Desert to Mount Kulal. From the top of the mountain you can see the Jade Sea and delight in spectacular views of the desert. Spend the next couple of days exploring this region – there are various optional activities on offer such as a Forest walk, Donkey and Camel walk, interacting with the local community and learning their cultural practices during your Kenya safari vacation. Day 13: Kulal – Wamba

Today you’ll drive to Wamba which will give you the chance to experience the beauty of Kenya’s desert landscapes. The tour will arrive at the town of Wamba in the Samburu District in the late afternoon and you can interact with local Samburu tribe as the Sun goes down. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Day 14: Wamba – Lake Baringo

Leaving Wamba behind travel to this fresh water lake in the late afternoon, enjoy an evening boat ride in search of Hippo, Crocodile, Fish Eagle and a variety of other birds. Lake Baringo is the most Northerly of Kenya’s small Rift Valley lakes; creased with papyrus and well- developed acacia forest. This is Kenya’s bird watching centre with over 450 species. You can enjoy spectacular bird watching during your safari holiday in Kenya, but beware, this is a malaria area so take prophylactics. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Day 15 – 16: Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria

Travel from Lake Baringo to the nearby Lake Bogoria to visit an area of bubbling hot springs and steaming geysers. Stop off and admire the pink swathes of Flamingos on the soda lake. In a good day you will be able to view Kudus, Antelopes, and Giraffes in the Reserve. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included)

Day 17: Lake Bogoria – Nairobi

On the first day of your Northern Kenya Safari Explorer Package, after breakfast you will be driven from Lake Bogoria back through the scenic countryside to Nairobi where you will board your return flight at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
