Introduction
The 5 Days Uganda Primate Safari takes you through Uganda’s lush rainforests to track chimpanzees and mountain gorillas. The journey covers Kibale Forest National Park, famous for its chimpanzees, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. This safari is perfect for primate lovers seeking a short but rewarding adventure.
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe – Transfer to Kampala
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your driver-guide who will brief you about the safari. You will then transfer to your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Depending on arrival time, you may explore the local markets or simply relax at the hotel. Overnight stay in Kampala/Entebbe.
Day 2: Kampala – Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast, you will embark on a scenic drive to Kibale Forest National Park, often referred to as the primate capital of the world. The journey takes you through tea plantations, lush countryside, and rolling hills of western Uganda. You will have lunch en route before arriving at your lodge near Kibale. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale & Bigodi Wetland Walk
Today begins with an early breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee tracking. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will trek into Kibale’s tropical forest in search of the lively chimpanzees. Once found, you spend an hour watching them feed, play, and swing from tree to tree.
In the afternoon, you will enjoy a guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community project that offers excellent birdwatching opportunities and cultural encounters. You will later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Kibale – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, you will set off for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. This journey takes you through the scenic landscapes of western Uganda, with terraced hills, rivers, and homesteads. Lunch is provided en route. By evening, you will arrive in Bwindi, check in at your lodge, and relax as you prepare for the highlight of the safari—gorilla trekking.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – Return to Kampala/Entebbe
This is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing before venturing into the dense forest with ranger guides. The trek may take between 2–6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family.
Once you find the gorillas, you are allowed one magical hour in their presence, observing their behaviors and capturing photographs. After the trek, you will begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, marking the end of your 5 Days Uganda Primate Safari.
